Abstract

532,166. Tank ships. KOCKUMS MEKANISKA VERKSTADS AKTIEBOLAG. July 17, 1939, No. 20703. Convention date, July 20, 1938. [Class 113 (ii)] A tank ship is divided by longitudinal and transverse bulkheads into a number of longitudinally parallel tanks, each of which is provided with a hatchway and all or substantially all the hatchways are so arranged that a transverse section of the ship through a hatchway does not pass through any other hatchway. In one form Fig. 3, alternate transverse bulkheads extend across the ship, the intermediate bulkheads extending only between a pair of longitudinal bulkheads 10 so that the outer tanks 16a are twice the length of the inner tanks 14a. In another form, Fig. 6, a single longitudinal bulkhead 30 is provided and the side tanks are in the form of shallow " summer " tanks 42b, 44b.
