Abstract

531,674. Tempering glass. QUENTIN, A. July 28, 1939, No. 22030. Convention date, Aug. 2, 1938. [Class 56] Relates to a device for holding a sheet of glass substantially vertical during the chilling stage of tempering. The device comprises a vertical frame composed of two rectangular members a hinged together, and a number of wires g which are attached to the frame members and to a member f on which the lower edge of the glass sheet rests. Springs h, attached to the member f and to the frame, keep the wires g stretched, and wires i attached to springs extend across the member f to provide a resilient support for the glass sheet. Projections d', on the upper edge of the frame, carry rollers e to support the device from a guide rail, and the hinges b of the frame engage a fixed rail to prevent the device from swaying. Transverse wires k may be provided, and a latch m may be used to keep the frame closed when a glass sheet has been inserted. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, describes a modification in which the two members of the frame are not hinged together. One of the members, which carries the support for the lower edge of the sheet, runs along guide rails while the other member is connected to one of the blowers which are movable to and from one another. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
