Abstract
530,788. Traffic signs. TAYLOR, P. S. June 12, 1939, No. 17149. [Class 3 (ii)] A bollard or standard for road traffic signs or like purposes comprises a main column or pillar 10 constructed wholly or mainly of fireclay, so as readily to break under impact. The pillar may have a permanently glossy or translucent surface, and may be fluted with a hollow inglazed interior. It may be attached to a square base 15 containing switch gear, and may be surmounted by a rectangular or like hollow casing 19 which may also be of fireclay. The casing base 23 is bolted to lugs 18 on the pillar 10, and is connected by bolts 27 to the top plate 26. The cap 29 rests on these bolts, and may be held in place by bolts 30 taking beneath undercut lugs 31 on the plate 26. The under side of the cap 29 may be glazed to reflect the light from a lamp 22 downward through holes 24 in the base 23. One or more windows are provided in the casing 19, some of which may be amber coloured.
