Abstract
527,996. Electron multipliers. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. April 25, 1939, No. 12426. Convention date, May 3, 1938. [Class 39 (i)] The secondary-electron-emitting electrodes are arranged alternately on opposite sides of an axis which is adjacent to the cathode and anode at its opposite ends, the curved cathode surface having an area which is at least twice that of one of the secondary-emitting surfaces and the generatrix of the cathode surface being normal to a plane containing the axis. In the form shown, the photo-electric cathode C is provided with a metal box S which prevents the electrons from being affected by wall charges. Secondary electrodes 1M ... 9M, formed with curved and straight portions, are arranged on opposite sides of the axis A-A and are connected to a potentiometer PR. The first secondary-emitting electrode 1M has an emissive area substantially greater than the succeeding secondary electrodes. An output impedance Z is connected between the anode B and the potentiometer PR and light from a source L is modulated and diffused over the cathode surface by a lens O. The Specification contains numerical data enabling the form of the electrodes to be calculated.
