Abstract
470,026. Electron multipliers. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BRETT, G. F. Feb. 8, 1936, No. 3932. [Class 39 (i)] An electron multiplier has in cascade a number of electron sources one of which is a primary source and the others are secondary emitting, each source forming part of an electron gun. As shown, each source consists of electron emitting material arranged at the bottom of a rectangular depression or pocket C<1>, C<2>, C<3> formed in or behind an apertured plate, which is mounted closely behind an apertured anode AA<1>, AA<2>, AA<3> respectively. The primary source C<1> may be thermionic or photo-electric. The output electrode A is in the same plane as the plates of the cathodes. Increasing potentials are applied to the guns and to the output electrode. In a modification an apertured plate is arranged between each cathode and anode and is either connected directly with the cathode or forms a control electrode.
