Abstract
496,564. Electron multipliers. FERNSEH AKT.-GES. May 31, 1937, No. 15074. Convention date, May 30, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] A multiplier comprises an anode disposed between a permeable secondary-emitting electrode and an impermeable secondary-emitting electrode, and the potential of the impermeable electrode lies between the potentials of the other two electrodes. A tube comprises a photoelectric cathode 2, accelerating secondary emitting electrodes 3, 4, 5, 6 formed of nets or grids, an anode 7, a retarding secondary emitting electrode 8 and a secondary emitting solid electrode 9. The electrodes 3 .. 9 are housed within a screening electrode 10 which may be at cathode potential and may form a coating on the wall of the tube. The electrode 9 is maintained at a potential which lies between that of the electrode 6 and that of the electrode 7 or the electrode 8. Specific values of the voltages on the various electrodes are contained in the Specification. The mesh of the electrodes 3 .. 5 may be 1000 per sq. cm. and that of the electrode 6 3600 per sq. cm. A thermionic cathode may be used.
