Abstract

520,682. Grass-cutting machines. JONES, D. S. K., and JONES, C. A. G. R. Sept. 26, 1938, No. 27954. [Class 6 (iii)] In a grass-cutting machine of the kind having a sliding knife bar 6 co-operating with a fixed finger bar 5, 3, the knife bar 6 is operated by a longitudinal lever 2 pivoted at 11 and carrying a transverse lever 1 connected to a balanced crank 20 rotating on a transverse axis in line with the pivot 11 of the lever 2. This lever is connected to a knife bar by ashort link 9, between which and the knife bar a rubber bushing 42 is provided. The lever 1 may be pivoted to the lever 2 or may be made flexible and in one piece with the lever 2. The crank 20 is driven by means of a sprocket and a chain gear enclosed with a chain gear for the rubber tyred land wheels 32 in a cover 31. The power is obtained from a high speed engine 33 for which a petrol tank 34 is provided. A clutch 27 in the driving gear is controlled by alever 40. The handle 39 is adjustably bolted to the frame.
