Abstract
519,676. Pneumatic tyre pressure gauges. KINSMAN, Ltd., and CHAPMAN, H. W. Sept. 21, 1938, No. 29503. [Class 106 (ii)] Comprises a particular construction of the type in which a spring-loaded lift valve is mounted on a seating in a hollow body part having in screwed connection with it an adjustable head whereby the loading of the spring may be adjusted. The body part a is connected at one end to a connection b of the type described in Specification 387,441 whereby it may be connected to a tyre valve or infrating pump. Within the body 'a is provided a seating d for a ball or other valve e normally pressed against its seating by a spring f acting on the valve through a washer e'. At the other end, the spring engages an abutment g guided in slots h and engaged by a thrust piece j carried by a hollow head i in screwed engagement with an external thread on the part a. An annular disc n is secured to the head and a disc o secured to the part a. Sheet metal cylinders p, q are secured to the discs n, o respectively, the former p having a scale and the latter q a gap which exposes part of the scale adjacent an index. The indications of the scale are arranged in helical formation. In a modification the scale or thepiece p may be mounted directly on the head i when the piece q would be much smaller. A vent u is provided to the atmosphere. When the pressure for which the gauge is set is exceeded; the valve e lifts and releases the air with an audible sound or a whistle may be fitted in the head i or part a.
