Abstract
519,580. Cables. FELTEN & GUILLEAUME CARLSWERKE AKT.-GES. Aug. 26, 1938, No. 25094. Convention date, Aug. 26, 1937. [Class 36] To prevent deterioration of the insulating properties of the oil in an oil-filled or oil-impregnated cable having a stranded copper conductor, the conductor is provided with a lead covering which fills the interstices between the strands on the periphery of the conductor, over which covering is directly arranged a layer of tin or aluminium preventing chemical action between the oil and the copper conductor and its covering. The tin or aluminium layer may be formed by winding a band of the material in overlapping turns on the lead covering; or a seamless layer may be formed by galvanizing or by pressing over a continuous sheath. To prevent chemical action between the oil and the outer sheath of the cable a tin or aluminium layer may be provided between the sheath and the dielectric of the cable.
