Abstract

517,859. Ships' hatches. REITH, R. B. Sept. 23, 1938, No. 27825. [Class 113 (i)] Ships' hatch beams comprise supporting rollers 2, which are carried in bearings in a carrier 5 which can be depressed or allowed to rise in relation to the beam by a cam 9 actuated by a lever 13 and acting on its upper surface. The beam thus normally rests in a notch 17 in the coaming plate 15 with the rollers inoperative, and is rolled aside when access is required. The beam may be held in position by a sliding bolt entering an externally capped hole in the top plate 16 of the hatch coaming. Specifications 344,823 and 417,120 are referred to.
