Abstract
516,960. Distributers for seeds. GEIJER, E. V. W. H. von. Nov. 14, 1938, No. 33094. [Class 6 (i)] A seed-sowing machine is provided with a seed container from which seeds are delivered to a chamber divided into compartments each of which communicates with a circumferential series of recesses in a rotary drum. The recesses are of different shapes to receive different kinds of seeds. The seeds fall from the drum into channels having outlet slots through which the seeds fall into a furrow made by a share. The furrows are closed by a scraper. In the machine shown in the Figures a seed container 5 delivers seeds to compartments in a chamber 8 which is situated above a drum 7 having a series of recesses 20-23 as shown in Fig. 3. A number of chambers 8 may be provided and a corresponding number of groups 'of recesses a, b, c as shown in Fig. 1. The drum is rotated from the wheels of the machine. When a particular kind of seed is to be sown it is fed from the container 5 into the compartment of the chamber 8 which is over the row of recesses 20-23 having the required shape to receive the seed. The remaining compartments are closed to the container 5 by sliding shutters. As the drum rotates the seeds are prevented from falling out of the recesses by a guide plate 9. As the seeds reach the end of the guide plate they fall into channels 11 having an opening in the bottom. Furrows for receiving the seeds may be made by shares 12 which may be of the kind described in Specification 516,923, and the furrows may be closed by scrapers 13 as described in Specification 521,486. These consist as shown in end view in Fig. 14 of a block having converging sides and. ends and a channel 56 open at the front and converging towards the rear.
