Abstract
516,377. Lawn trimmers. SPON, J. June 24, 1938, No. 18743. [Class 6 (ii)] A machine for cutting the edges of lawns is provided with narrow wheels which are arranged one behind another in the same or closely adjacent planes so that the machine can be tilted without affecting its operation, the cutting elements being mounted on one side of all the wheels. The Figures show a machine having supporting wheels 4, 14 in closely adjacent planes, the wheel 4 having gripping spikes 4a and carrying on' its axle a sprocket 5 .coupled by a chain 6 to the cutter. The sprocket 5 has a free-wheel connection with the axle of the wheel 4 which can be adjusted in position in the machine frame by a turnbuckle 9 to adjust the depth of cut and the tension of the chain 6. The cutter comprises a star-shaped rotary member 12 and a stationary blade 13. A resiliently mounted steadying wheel 15 is provided at the front of the machine.
