Abstract
515,881. Closures for containers. CHURCH, E. C. April 14, 1938, No. 11526. Convention date, April 17, 1937. [Class 125 (iii)] A nozzle closure for a powder, container or a collapsable tube, has an outer hemispherical shell 50 with a dependent cylindrical part 58 attached to the top 62 of the container by flanges 94, 96. The inner movable member 80 is shaped as part of a sphere and fits closely to the inside of the shell 50; it is supported on trunnions 90 upon which it turns. A lug 82 projects from the member 80 through a slot in the shell 50 and provides a means by which the member can be turned. In Figs. 3. 5 the dispensing aperture in the shell 50 consists of a number of openings 76 which are open when the member 80 is moved from them. The discharge apertures may be a number of openings or a single opening upon either or both of the shell 50 and the cal shell 54" having its dispensing opening 56" member 80. Locking projections 104, 108 are provided on the section to hold it in the closed or open position. The lower portion of the nozzle skirt may be threaded to screw on to the container. In the modification shown in Fig. 29 the inner movable part 80 has a discharge opening 84 and a depending flange 116. The outer part of the closure is a frusto-hemispherinbrmally closed by the part 80 which engages a suitable washer 112. In this case the lug 82" moves across the dispensing opening. The closure is constructed by pressure shaping a cylinder with a groove 110.for the washer 112, and pressing diametrically oposite points inwards by means of plungers 120 to form trunnions 90. The inner shell member and the washer are then inserted by means of a reciprocating plunger and the upper portion of the nozzle is crimped to force it over the inner shell member.
