Abstract
515,747. Fusible cut-outs. FIERI, C. June 7, 1938, No. 16953. Convention date, June 4, 1937. [Class 38 (i)] The main fusible element 3, Fig. 1, of a cut-out is ruptured before reaching its melting point by a spring-pressed wedge 7 that insulates the separated ends of the element 3. Arc extinction is assisted by the provision of a small fuse 4 having a high melting point and enclosed in arc extinguishing material. For heavier currents the first rupture may be effected by the operation of a link 15, Fig. 5, attached by solder of low melting point to bridge the conductors 14 and acted on by a spring-pressed plunger 7. A second fuse 3 is ruptured by a wedge 7a and a final break effected by a small fuse 4. The fusible element 3 may be housed in a support 6 having a slot the dimensions of which limit the size of the fuse that can be inserted.
