Abstract
515,154. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and JENKINS, H. G. May 25, 1938, No. 15616. [Class 39 (i)] Means for producing light comprises (1) one or more low-pressure mercury-vapour discharge devices, (2) luminescent zinc-beryllium silicate activated by manganese and (3) luminescent magnesium or zinc tungstate or both, the light from (2) and (3) when excited by (1) (and possibly from (1) itself) being mixed so as to produce light falling within a specified area of a trichroinatic diagram, which is stated to contain all known approximations to daylight. When the ratio of the fluxes from (3) and (2) is about 1.9 a close approximation to carbon dioxide light is obtained, when the manganese forms 2.75 per cent. of (2); warmer or colder light may be obtained by decreasing or increasing this ratio. The materials may be mixed and coated on the inside of a single discharge tube, equal weights giving the above optimum ratio; or separate tubes may be coated with each material.
