Abstract

515,084. Making bags. JAMES RIVER PAPER PRODUCTS, Inc. May 20, I938, No. 5224/39. Convention date, July 31, 1937. Divided out of 515,059. [Class 94 (ii)] The bottom closures of tubular bag blanks are held between electrically heated pressing clamps sufficiently long to secure adequate closure. Fig. 5 shows a cross-section of a clamp, the lower jaw has a rubber facing 42 and the upper jaw has a heating resistance 48. The clamps are carried by a chain conveyer 2 and are normally held open. At the moment of receiving a bag blank from the feeding cylinder 116, Fig. 7, each clamp is closed by reason of passing under plates 60, Fig. 1, and it remains closed until passing away from the other ends of the plates 60. The position of the plates 60 is determined by cams on two shafts, carrying sprockets 76, 78, which can be adjusted by a hand-wheel 74. The blanks are received on to a roller 100 and transferred by a belt 110 to a cylinder 116. Beyond the belt, the blank bends down to a plate 128 shown dotted at 128a in its lower position. The plate 128 is moved upwards by a cam 130 and throws the free end of the blank into position between the open jaws of a clamp 28. Specification 515,059 is referred to.
