Abstract

513,655. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and GIBSON, W. T. March 29, 1938, No. 9594. [Class 39 (i)] Overheating of insulating parts of high power ultrashort wave transmitting valves due to high dielectric loss is prevented by cooling those parts by circulating fluid of high electrical resistance. The valve B may be of the kind described in Specification 504,123 and has an anode A forming part of the envelope, the glass portion B of which is cemented to a metallic ring C to which the grid electrode is connected, The valve is enclosed in a cooling jacket comprising a tube E of glass or "Bakelite" (R.T.M.) with metal end plates F secured by insulating strainers I and wing nuts K. The cooling liquid which may be distilled water or oil, is admitted at the lower end to pass first over the anode A and then the bulb B ; baflles may be provided to guide the flow along the anode surface, Fig. 1 (not shown). The end plates F constitute the connections to the grid and anode of the valve, the latter being supported by a resilient member M. Specification 349,719 also is referred to.
