[Class 26] In a siphonic water-waste-preventer a valve is provided in the part of the siphonic system communicating with the discharge conduit, is closed by a float-operated member and is adapted to be opened by the buoyancy of the float when the water in the cistern has reached a predetermined level, so as to transfer surplus water to the conduit. In a siphon of the bell type the overflow valve comprises an inclined annular face 5 on the bell, so arranged that a flow of water through it will be directed into the stand pipe 2, and a valve carried by a pivoted float arm 9. The valve is normally held closed by the weight of the float. In a siphon of the piston type the valve is mounted on an extension of the long leg of the siphon near the bend.
