Abstract

509,241. Slitting tyre treads. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., WILLSHAW, H., and TURNER, M. Nov. 12, 1937, No. 31095. [Class 145 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII]. In a device for slitting tyre treads, the depth of cut is adjustable by a screw 23 and nut 27 which effects relative movement of the cutter 24 and rollers 12, 13 which bear on the tyre tread. The rollers are carried by a sleeve 11 on a support 20 movable transversely of the tyre and the nut 27 projects through a slot 26 in the sleeve ; the screw 23 is formed on the upper end of a spindle 21 carrying the knife 24 which is preferably circular but non-rotary and may be saw-like. The depth of cut is indicated by a pointer 28. In modifications, one roller is omitted or one roller is arranged between two cutters. Specification 483,017, [Group VIII], is referred to.
