Abstract
897,585. Milling. LEVER BIAS MACHINE CORPORATION. Sept. 1, 1960 [April 21, 1960], No. 30129/60. Class 83 (3). [Also in Groups VIII and XXIII] Means for slitting rotating rolls 14 of sheet material comprise a pair of rotary cutters 10, 12, the cutter 12 being driven from an electric motor 40, and means for simultaneously advancing the cutters into the roll 14, the cutter 10 having a pair of axially-spaced circular smooth cutting-edges 54, 56, Fig. 3, which are arranged to straddle the zone of the roll 14 which is engaged by the teeth 58 of cutter 12. The cutters are pivotally supported with respect to a carriage 22 traversable on rails 20 and are advanced into the roll, e.g. by means of interconnected piston-and-cylinder assemblies 46, 76, the supply of fluid to which is controlled by an electrically-operable valve 50. When the knife 10 is retracted, a microswitch 90 is operated to index the carriage 22. Specifications 863,518 and 865,176 are referred to.
