Abstract
505,870. Converting. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 16, 1938, No. 17944. Convention date, June 16, 1937. [Class 38 (ii)] In a converting arrangement comprising main discharge devices 4, 5 having immersion ignitors, control impulses of steep wavefront are obtained by means of' oscillatory circuits 12, 13, connected to the supply 1 of control potential and also through grid controlled auxiliary valves 20 to the control electrodes 11 of the main discharge devices, the oscillatory circuits resonating at the frequency of the control potential. The oscillatory circuits are supplied through a phase shifting circuit 18, 19 to enable control of the moment of ignition to be effected. Each valve 20 is controlled from its associated oscillatory circuit, the control potential being obtained from a resistance 26 which is connected in series with a condenser 25 across the oscillatory circuit. The inductance 14 may be self saturating and, if desired, the supply for the electrode 11 may be taken from across the inductance instead of from across the condenser 15.
