Abstract
505,747. Rockets. ZWER INA, R. Aug. 10, 1937, No, 7186/39. Divided application. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii)] . A rocket is provided with a solid propellent charge which is so shaped that the combustion gases issuing therefrom are directed into the throat of the nozzle. In the construction shown, the charge comprisee separate layers t<1>, t<2> ... t<6>, the abutting surfaces of which are of spherical formation. The individual layers may be separated by, or wrapped in, suitable retarding material in order to control the rate of com-' bustion of the propellent charge during flight. The propellent charge is compacted by means of a cylindrical press having a hemispherical end, which is inserted into the nozzle end of the rocket casing a. The hemispherical end of the press may be provided with projections, which produce indentations in the surface of the propellent material nearest the nozzle b. The inner surface of the casing a may be conical, in order to aid the compacting of the propellent charge.
