Abstract
504,745. Vehicle opening-tops. BISHOP, W. H. Oct. 30, 1937, No. 29691. [Class 108 (i)] In a vehicle roof of the kind having an opening adapted to be closed by a longitudinally sliding panel, rain channels for trapping any penetrating water are formed along each side, and preferably also along the front and rear edges, of the panel, and co-operate with means on the main body of the vehicle for carrying off the water collected. In the construction shown, the metallic sliding panel a is provided along all its edges with an integral channel b, the longitudinal portions of which are fitted with brackets g carrying runners or slides f that engage runways h for guiding the movements of the panel. Strips k of sponge rubber in the channels b coact with the folded edges of the roof d to exclude draught. In a modification the panel is made of synthetic resin or like mouldable material, and a separate sheet metal rain channel is secured thereto, while in a further construction, the channels are provided along the sides and rear edge and communicate at the front through short drain tubes with drain passages in a front 'transverse member of the roof.
