Abstract

946,781. Folding hoods for vehicles. WEATHERSHIELDS Ltd. Feb. 1, 1962 [Nov. 1, 1960; Jan. 5, 1961], Nos. 37444/60 and 458/61. Heading B7B. A passenger vehicle has a folding roof comprising a flexible covering 11 carried by crossmembers 12 supported at each side by folding linkages which include a lazy-tongs linkage, the linkages being extensible to bring the front cross member 16, 18 into engagement with the front end 19, 20 of the roof opening, one link 25 on each side being guided in a channel. section guide 28 in or on the cantrail of the vehicle body. An inextensible flexible strip is incorporated in the side edges of covering 11 which, in the roof closed position, lie in rebated surfaces 21 of cantrails 10, Fig. 5. The crossmembers 12 pass through loops on strips secured by adhesive to covering 11. A spring-loaded releasable catch on link 17 or on the body cantrails engages a pin on the cantrails or links 17 respectively when the hood is olosed.
