Abstract
504,575. Oil burners ; air - heating stoves. BRETTES, H. J. Nov. 23, 1937, No. 32281. Convention date, Nov. 23, 1936. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] A heavy-oil burner comprises a flat or conical vaporizing plate 8, Fig. 2, carried by a column 6 formed with a fuel supply passage 7, a cast iron vessel 1 attached to a supporting surface by a flange 2, a vessel 5 mounted on ballbearings within the vessel 1 and formed with a cap 12 carrying a scraper 15 engaging the plate 8, and a helical coil 9 arranged between the plate 8 and a flange 10 on the vessel 5. After the parts have been preliminarily heated by burning alcohol in the vessel 5, the fuel supplied through the column 6 is vaporized at the plate 8 and burns with air directed by a deflector 18 surrounding an aperture 19 in the flange 2 through openings 17 in the cap 12 on to the coil 9. The flames issue through openings 16 in the cap 12 which is rotated by the ascending air currents impinging on helicoidal vanes on the outer surface of the cap. The coil 9 may alternatively be supported at its lower end by the column 6 or a sleeve 11 attached to the column 6 so as to remain stationary when the vessel 5 rotates. Fig. 4 shows the burner mounted on an imperforate support 23 in an air heating stove. The combustion gases ascend an annular passage 28 to the flue 29 while the air to be heated passes through passages 31, 32, 33 to discharge nozzles 26. The air may be supplied by natural draught through apertures 30 in the stove base or by a motor-driven fan 27.
