[Class 51 (ii)] A shaft furnace for roasting ores is fired by gas led into the combustion zone through a plurality of vertical pipes F,' air being supplied through pipes G<1>, G<2> and a saddle C. If the charge is to be reduced, gas may be supplied through pipes B<1>, B<2> and air through the pipes G and F. D is a movable discharge table. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 2917 /00, [Class 51], 2917A /00, 2917B/00, [both in Class 50], 6924/00, and 23044A/00, [both in Class 51].
