Abstract
503,866. Folding chairs. BLANK, A. Oct. 15, 1937, No. 28161. [Class 52 (ii)] The back frame 4 of a folding chair is adjusted while occupied by rack and'pin adjustment of the pivoted arm rests 5. The arm rest is provided with a tubular or slotted recess to receive a rack bar 18, Fig. 2, pivoted at 7 to the upper end of a strut member 8 ; which is preferably integral with the front leg 10. A pin or lug 17 on the arm rest engages one of the notches 21, while the down-turned end 20 of the rack bar slidably engages the bottom of therecess. Where a tubular frame is employed the rack bar slides within the tube, the forward part of which is slotted at 16. In the case of a wood frame a slotted plate 25, Fig. 4, engaged by cross-pins 29, 30, is employed. Stop, members 32, 33 prevent undue opening of the leg parts while a hinged leather &o. strap 13 may be used to prevent forward collapse of the rear legs during adjustment and to facilitate opening of the chair from the collapsed position.
