Abstract

503,433. Water-tube steam boilers; steam superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and TOLLOW, F. S. Nov. 3, 1937, No. 30119. [Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii)] In a water-tube boiler, the gases from the combustion chamber 2 after passing over a transverse bank of boiler tubes 1 are directed by baffles 24, 19, 28 first upwards through a pass 25 containing a superheater 34 and having a byepass 23 controlled by a damper 26, then downwards through a pass 27 containing boiler tubes and finally upwards through a pass 30 containing an economizer' 31. The tubes in the second pass and tubes 32 beyond the third pass are connected to a water drum 12 and to steam and water drums 11, 10, which are connected by upflow and downcomer tubes to the headers or drums 5, 4 of the transverse bank 1. In modifications, the water drum 12 is replaced by headers connected to the headers 4 and to the drum 10 by a single row of downcomer tubes..
