[Class 17 (ii)] A shoe or sandal especially for ladies' wear has an upper composed at least in the rear portion thereof of one or more attaching straps, the ends of which are secured to the shank at opposite sides and which cross over the instep and en circle the ankle, as shown. Th( strap 16 may be extensible or it may be resiliently attached to the shoe at the shank, and at least a part may be composed of a number of individually resilient strips to facilitate stretching the strap for en larging the foot opening formed thereby when inserting the foot therein. The front portion of the upper may comprise straps 18, 20 in crossed relation tc harmonize with the rear portion, or any othor construction of front upper may be employed.
