Abstract

501,579. Traverse mechanism for yarnwinding machines. FINLAYSON, D. Sept. 1, 1937, No. 25949/36. [Class 120 (ii)] Traverse mechanism for yarn-winding machines for winding cheeses, cones and the like with tapered ends, and especially suitable for winding lustrous or slippery materials such as artificial filaments, comprises an adjustably counterweighted guide arm 35 pivoted at 34 to a lever 32 oscillating with a constant amplitude. When the arm 35 is turned about the pivot 34 by contact with the growing package the effective radius and the length of traverse are reduced. The traverse cam 30, which oscillates the lever 32 by a link 31, is rotated by gearing 28 from the shaft which drives the winding-spindle through friction gear 24. The winding-spindle is supported at its outer end by a pivoted, spring- controlled bracket 40.
