Abstract

560,637. Winding thread. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and HAMPSON, C. H. Aug. 21, 1942, No. 11778. [Class 120 (ii)] A machine for winding thread packages tapered at each end comprises a rotating roller C adapted to receive the thread, and a thread guide n traversing the package and in contact therewith and mounted on an arm N fixed on an axle M connected by an intermediate bracket K with a short rod J passing through the slot H of a lever E oscillating about a fixed fulcrum F so that as the package grows, the rod J moves in the slotted lever towards the fulcrum thereof and the traverse given to the guide n by the lever is thereby shortened. As shown, the lever is oscillated by a pin G engaging the slot H and carried by a sleeve S reciprocated along a stationary bar T by a stud P engaging the groove Q of a rotating cam R. The roller C may be positively driven or by contact with a driven drum and the fulcrum F of the lever may be adjustable in a direction parallel to the length of the lever.
