Abstract
497,909. Vehicle bodies. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G. April 14, 1938, No. 11532. Convention date, April 17, 1937. [Class] 103 (iv)] In a vehicle body framework of the truss type the lower side longitudinal or rail comprises a through-running flat plate 17 of substantial depth overlapping and secured to the inner faces of channel-section vertical posts 10 and diagonals 22, and reinforced at the top and bottom by through-running internal angle members 20, 21. As shown the top member 20 is a simple angle member, while the lower member 21 is of inwardly facing channel section forming a floor-supporting stringer, and the surfaces 17, 20, 21 preferably form three sides of a box-section heating duct. The lower portion of the framework is further reinforced by diagonal braces 22 which are secured to the flat plate 17 and to gusset plates 16, which in turn are secured to flanges 10a, 10b of the posts 10. Projecting outwardly at the lower edge of the plate 17 are an inverted channel 25 and an angle bridge-member 27, which extend longitudinally between adjacent posts 10, the channel 25 being cut away at 26 to accommodate the gusset plate 16. Finally, a through-running finishing rail 23 of flanged channel-section has its flanges 24, 28 secured to the gusset plates 16 and to the vertical flanges 25<1>, 30 of the elements 25,27.
