[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XVI] A felt cover or jacket A for that part of a transmission-gear housing that protrudes above the floor level of a motor vehicle is made by impregnating, filling, loading, or stiffening a length of felt, subjecting the felt to the action of steam, and then to the action of heat and pressure in a matrix or mould the movable parts of which are shaped to impart the desired contour to the cover. The felt may be coloured, and the moulding-device may emboss a pattern on its surface. A piece a, Fig. 4, of impregnated felt, after steaming, may be placed on the upper surface of a heated mould e and pressed by a plate f hinged at f<1> and secured by a tongue f<2> on a hinged bolt f<3>.
