Abstract
492,098. Sound-reproducing systems. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. March 10, 1937, No. 7063. Convention date, March 10, 1936. [Class 40 (iv)] A sound-radiating system comprises a number of loud-speakers having direct-radiating diaphragms and arranged substantially in ring formation. As shown in Figs. 1a., 1c., the individual loud-speakers 4 are mounted with their diaphragms 5 opposite holes 3 in a frusto conical iron baffle 2 carried by a pedestal stand 1 and provided with top and bottom walls 6, 7 which may be apertured. The loud-speakers may be mounted so that their relative spacing can be varied and so that their axes can be adjusted upwardly or downwardly. In a modified arrangement, Figs. 2a, 2b (not shown), the loud-speakers are arranged in two groups, one above the other, the loud-speakers of one group being positioned circumferentially between those of the other group. More than two groups of loud-speakers may be employed and the baffle or baffles may be polygonal. The diameter of the diaphragms is preferably small compared with the wave-length of the middle frequency of the frequency band to be radiated and the power supplied to each loudspeaker is preferably of the order of 2 watts.
