[Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] In apparatus for drying the hair, hands, or the like by air circulation comprising outer and inner shells 7, 15, enclosing an annular passage 17 through which air is forced by a circulator such as a centrifugal fan 23, the inner shell 15 is formed in its upper part with one or more apertures 16 provided on one side with longitudinal and substantially radial baffles 27, and at the forward end with transverse baffles 28, whereby air is deflected into the inner shell and recirculated by the fan. Additional baffles 27 are spaced around the passage 17, those on the side where the fan blades are moving upwardly having a greater length than those on the other side in order to compensate for irregular air distribution. Partial recirculation is effected by a conical ring 11 on shell 7 and cool external air is drawn in at E by the action of the baffles 28. A framework 20 within shell 15 supports a gauze 22 and an electrically heated coil 18. The fan 23 has two sets of blades 24, 25, drawing air respectively through the shell 15 and a casing 6 for the fan motor 2. The shell 7 is connected to a two-part casing 4, 3 which encloses the fan and the motor casing 6 respectively, and is connected by screws 5 with a spider 1 supporting the whole apparatus on a stand. The coil 18 has in series with it two additional coils, one or both of which may be short circuited, to increase the heat output, by a contact arm which also controls the motor 2. The contact arm is mounted in a casing connected to one side of the forward end of shell 7, a diametrically opposite casing, containing a reading lamp with a separate switch, being provided.
