Abstract
489,985. Hydraulic presses; fluidpressure load-handling machines. SOC. DES APPAREILS DE LEVAGE LE MAMMOUTH. Dec. 13, 1937, No. 34466. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1936. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] In a multiple column hydraulic press or elevator, e.g. for raising motor cars, movement of the various pistons is synchronized by connecting, the top of each cylinder to the bottom of the next, liquid under pressure being supplied to the bottom of the first cylinder 1 for raising the pistons, and the top of the last cylinder 2 discharging into a closed reservoir 21 thereby compressing air which facilitates the return stroke. A byepass valve 13, in a pipe connecting the supply reservoir to the bottom of the first cylinder, is closed when a pump 10 is started for raising the pistons ; and at the top of the stroke valves 17, in the pipes between the cylinders, are closed to isolate each cylinder from the rest. The cylinders may be arranged in pairs as shown and a reservoir 27 of oil under pressure is connected through a non- return valve to the pipe between each pair for compensating for leakage.
