Abstract

489,838. Band clips. SMALLWOOD, A. Jan. 7, 1938, No. 465. [Class 44] [Also in Group X] A clamp of the kind comprising two semi-cylindrical members hinged together by one or more hook-like projections on one member engaging corresponding slots or apertures in the other member, the other ends of the members being provided with apertured lugs for the reception of a securing bolt, has the lugs provided at their outer edges with shoulders which abut in the tightened position of the clamp and so prevent the lugs from being strained. One form of clamp is shown in Fig. 1 for securing two tubes in end to end alignment, a spigot el on the tube e entering the end of the abutting tube f, and the clamp having pairs of lugs c on each member a, b, to receive clamping bolts d, the ends of which are burred over to retain the nuts d<1> thereon. The ends of the lugs are formed with downturned shoulders c<1> which abut in the clamping position as shown in Fig. 4, so that the pressures of the bolts are transmitted to the roots of the lugs whereby the clamping effect is enhanced. The hinge comprises hooked portions b<1> on one member b engaging apertures in a stepped portion a<1> of the other member a, the stepped portion seating on the outer face of the member b. The clamps may be formed with a single pair of hinge hooks and clamping lugs.
