Abstract

489,824. Stoppers for carboys &c. FREEMAN, W. S. Oct. 27, 1937, No. 29382. [Class 125 (iii)] A stopper of rubber or other resilient material for carboys or like containers embodies a relief valve comprising a hollow protuberance terminating in a number of ridges radiating from a point so that the lips 12 formed by slitting the material along the ridges and which are held together by the resilience of the material, open to relieve excess pressure within the container and close tightly under external pressure. The relief valve is formed as an integral part of the stopper which may be of the kind set forth in Specification 473,862. The stopper comprises a plug 1 having ribs 2 and a flexible skirt 7 turned down over the container mouth and stiffened by a wire 8 in the circumferential groove 9. The relief valve is formed by three converging flaps 10 in the upper wall 6.
