Abstract

487,547. Electrical precipitation apparatus ; centrifugal gas - cleaners. SAINT-JACQUES, E. C. June 21, 1937, No. 17227. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group II] Apparatus for removing impurities suspended in gases by the combined action a of centrifugal force and an electric field, comprises an outer casing and concentric tube e forming an annular space, into the upper end of which the impure gas is admitted by a tangential pipe f, and from which the cleaned gas is withdrawn through the tube e. On the opposite walls of the casing and tube are disposed electrodes g, h connected to a source of high tension electricity so that the gas is simultaneously under the action of centrifugal force and a strong electric field co-operating to cause deposit of dust on the outer casing. The electrodes are preferably set in grooves in their supporting walls so as to minimize the formation of eddies. The supply pipe f for the dust laden air may be connected to a number of separators in parallel and valves provided so as to isolate each in turn for cleaning &c. purposes.
