Abstract
178,277. Heenan & Froude, Ltd., and Walker, G. H. March 5, 1921. Dust-collectors. - Dust-laden air or gas is passed through narrow nozzles or openings into collecting chambers wherein the dust is deposited, the air or gas escaping at the chamber-mouths, which are larger than the nozzles; baffle-plates in the chambers prevent eddying. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 3, dust-laden air enters a casing B bv a nozzle A and deposits the dust in a conical chamber B' containing a parallel set of vertical baffles b which prevent eddying; the purified air escapes from the casing. The chamber B<1> may be cylindrical, and the baffles may be disposed radially or in two sets of parallel plates at an angle. A hinged bottom b<1> or a sliding door or hopper may be provided for dust removal. Fig. 5 shows a two-stage collector in which the air entering by a nozzle A and depositing a portion of its dust &c. in a partitioned casing B<1> is caused to deliver the remainder to an annular radially-partitioned collector B<2> before passing to the outlet b<2>. The apparatus may be used dry, or flushed out continuously or at intervals by water, oil, &c.
