Abstract
Disazo dyes insoluble in water are made by diazotizing an aminoazo compound of the general formula <FORM:0485116/IV/1> wherein R1 may be further substituted by CF3, NO2 and/or halogen, and R2 by alkyl and/or alkoxy groups and coupling with an arylide of 2 : 3-oxy-naphthoic acid in substance, on the fibre or on a substratum. In examples, (1) cotton is grounded with the anilide and developed with 2 : 5-dimethoxy-4-amino - 21 - chloro - 41 - nitro - 61 - trifluoromethyl-1 : 11-azobenzene diazotized in presence of formic and sulphuric acids and neutralized with sodium acetate (blue black), (2) material is padded with the o-toluidide, printed with a paste containing the zinc chloride double salt of the diazonium chloride of (1) and acetic acid, dried and treated with hot sodium carbonate solution (blue black), (3) and (4) similar to (1) using diazotized 4-amino-2 : 5-dimethoxy- or dimethyl-41-trifluoromethyl-61-nitro-1 : 11-azobenzene (blue black and garnet), (5) the diazo compound of (1) is coupled with the o-toluidide in substance or in presence of heavy spar or zinc white.
