Abstract
Azo dyes insoluble in water are made in substance, on a substratum or on the fibre by diazotizing an amine of the formula <FORM:0460782/IV/1> and coupling with arylamides of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid with the exception of those containing at least two alkyl groups as substituents in the aryl nucleus. They yield intense yellowish to red shades particularly fast towards boiling caustic soda solutions. In an example, cotton is impregnated with 1-(2<1>-hydroxy-3<1>-naphthoylamino) - 2 - methyl - 4 - chlorobenzene and developed with diazotized 2-amino-4-n-propylsulphone-diphenylether (yellowish scarlet). Specifications 6379/12, [Class 2 (iii)], 17279/13, [Class 15 (ii)], 195,600, [Class 2 (iii), 202,984, [Class 15 (ii)], 279,146, 294,883, [both in Class 2 (iii)], and 383,064 are referred to. 2-Amino-4-n-propylsulphone-diphenylether is made by nitration of 4-chloro-1-n-propylsulphone-benzene to form 3 - nitro - 4 - chloro - 1 - n - propylsulphonebenzene, condensing with potassium phenolate to yield 2-nitro-4-n-propylsulphone-diphenylether and reducing.
