484,077. Stays and fastenings for hinged windows. KIEFER, J. Nov. 22,1937, No. 32080. [Classes 44 and 65 (i)] Means for holding a top-hung window 1 in position comprises a stay-bar 3 pivoted to the window, and an upstanding pin 8 on the frame 2 in the immediate region of the stay-bar pivot when the window is closed, in which position the side surface of the staybar engages the pin and prevents the window from opening even if the free end of the bar is not engaged by the retaining means 7. The stay may have inclined lateral slots 9 to engage the pin 8 when the window is open. In the form shown in Fig. 7, the stay-bar 3 is cranked at the pivot end, and the pin 8 engages a recess in the angle of the crank. The surface 3b is concentric to the pin 8 and engages a fixed abutment 15 on the window frame during movement in the stay. The stay carries a pin 14 pivotally engaging a lug 6b on a sliding bolt 11 adapted to engage keepers 12, 13 on the frame 2 when the window is closed.
