[Class 88 (ii)] In an upright pianoforte of standard size, the tenor and bass strings are lengthened by being set at a greater angle or rake than usual and, to enable the corresponding hammers to be arranged at the lower levels necessary, the keyboard is formed "in winding," its level at the bass rear corner being dropped approximately an inch while the front ends of the keys remain at normal level.
