456,000. Pianofortes. EASTMAN, J. R., 87, Willesden Lane, Kilburn, London. May 4, 1935, No. 13337. [Class 88 (ii)] To reduce the front-to-back dimension of upright pianofortes, the keys 1 of a length equal to that of the normally visible part are pivoted at their rear ends 2 and actuate the wippens 13 by rods 4 and levers 7. The rods 4 abut the underside of the keys and rest in vertically adjustable cups 6 on the front ends of the levers 7. The rear ends of the levers 7 rest on vertically adjustable abutments 16. The rods 4 are guided in a rail 161 carried by fixed brackets 17 independent of the keyboard. The keyboard rests on pins 5b and is pivoted at 5a so that it can be swung upwards. The brackets 9 carrying the levers 7 may be attached to the underside of the rail 10, Fig. 2 (not shown).
