Abstract
482,563. Anodic treatment of aluminium and its light alloys. CHAYBANY, A. G. July 7, 1937, No. 18868. Convention date, July 7,1936. [Class 41] The surface of an article of aluminium or a light alloy thereof is anodically oxidized in a bath consisting of a saturated aqueous solution of an alkali salt of a mineral acid in contact with an excess of said salts in the solid state. Salts used are the acid sulphates or acid phosphates or acid fluosilicates or acid fluoborates of sodium, potassium or ammonium ; or the sodium, potassium or ammonium alums of aluminium, chromium or iron ; or mixtures of these salts, e.g. potassium hydrogen sulphate and (a) potassium alum or (b) potassium fluosilicate. The anodizing may take place in two or more operations and in two or more different baths, e.g. first in a potassium hydrogen sulphate bath and then in a potassium hydrogen fluosilicate bath, or vice versa. The bath may contain an " acidic polishing economizer," e.g. formol, for increasing the permeability of the coating to oils, varnishes, or ethyl or methyl alcohol or acetone for preventing the liquid from remaining in a state of super-saturation.
