Abstract
1,267,228. Forming oxalate coatings on ferrous surfaces. PENNWALT CORP. Aug. 6, 1970 [Aug. 8, 1969], No. 37996/70. Heading C7U. A composition for forming oxalate coatings on ferrous surfaces comprises a solution (pH 0 to 2À5) of ferrous oxalate, containing a min, of 2À0% fluoride ion, e.g. alkali metal fluorides, or bifluorides, ammonium fluoride or bifluoride or HF. The solution may also contain sulphate ions e.g. ferric sulphate and the bath temperature is 130 to 200‹F. The pH may be adjusted by adding H 2 SO 4 , HF, HNO 3 or organic acids, e.g. oxalic acid.
