Abstract
481,195. Sole trimming and channelling. THURLING, B. Sept. 9, 1936, Nos. 24548/36 and 4054/37. [Class 17 (i)] [Also in Group VIII] A sole trimming or trimming and channelling machine has a rotary trimming cutter, a positively driven feed wheel, guiding means which enters the crease between the upper and sole, and other guiding means beneath the sole. In one form a rotary cutter 2 co-operates with a feed wheel 4, a work support 6 and crease guide 5a. In a modification, the crease guide and feed wheel are combined in the form of a disc 4c driven by bevel gearing. In this modification, small rollers 6a urged upwardly by springs 17 support the sole, and are carried on rods 16, 16a also supporting an arm 20 carrying a channelling knife 21. The knife 21 can be retracted by levers 22, 22a. At the side of the trimming knife is a detachable cutter 30 for chopping the cut-away portion into short pieces. Either machine may be used for cutting leather into strips, a gap A<1> being provided to receive a large sheet.
