Abstract
481,048. Prepayment mechanism for meters. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES. March 13, 1937, No. 7431. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1936. Addition. to 480,552. [Class 27] In prepayment meter mechanism as described in the parent Specification, the pins on the slide 11, which is set in position, according to the coin inserted, by a projection 13 engaging slots in the coin-actuated slide 5, transmit the rotation of the coin drum 3 to the quantity mechanism shaft 19 by means of at least two pinions 20, 21 positively connected to said shaft, one or both of the pinions being rotated through a greater or less angle, according to the size of the coin, during the rotation of the drum. The slide 5 has five slots 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 corresponding to a half-crown, penny, florin, shilling, and sixpence respectively, and the slide 11 has five sets of pins 14 ... 18. If a penny is used, the pin 14 rotates the pinion 20 through one tooth, but together with all the other pins misses the pinion 21. When a shilling is used, the pins 14, 15, 16, seven in number, rotate the pinion 20 through seven teeth, but only the pins 14, 15, five in number, rotate the pinion 21 through five teeth, so that the shaft 19 is turned an amount corresponding to twelve teeth, that is twelve times as much as it would be rotated for a penny. For a florin, the twelve pins 14 ... 17, and for a half-crown the fifteen pins 14 ... 18 actuate both the pinions 20, 21 thus rotating the shaft 19 an amount corresponding to twenty-four and thirty teeth respectively. If a sixpence is used, the pin 14 actuates both pinions, but the pins 15, four in number, actuate pinion 20 only, so turning shaft 19 through an amount equivalent to six teeth. In a modification, the pinions 20, 21 instead of being directly connected to the shaft 19 as shown, they are connected to it through an epicyclic gear, the planet wheel carrier arm of which is fixed to the shaft.
