Abstract
479,543. Sliding - clasp fasteners. SUSSKIND, A. Oct. 26. 1936, No. 29020. Convention date. Oct. 24, 1935. [Class 44] Sliding-clasp fasteners of any desired length are produced by cutting off the required length from a long length of a pair of interlocked stringer tapes and thereafter fitting the slider and the top and bottom stops which have projections to give self-locking engagement with the adjacent fastener elements: The top and bottom stops may have plain extension tapes 8, 10 attached as shown in Fig. 1. The top stop 5, Fig. 1, is formed by bending the flat member shown in Fig. 2 ; this form of stop is used with fastener elements of T-shape as the limbs 11<11>, 11<111> of the top stop engage the necks of the adjacent elements. The top stop 6, Fig. 1, is formed by bending the member shown in Fig. 5, this member being provided with spring locking tongues 34 to engage the adjacent fastener elements. The bottom stop 9, Fig. 1, is formed by bending the member shown in Fig. 4. The flanges 31, 32 are staggered so as to correspond with the relative disposition of the fastener elements on the two stringer tapes. The bottom stop is attached while the two tapes are still interlocked. The front and rear faces of the top and bottom stops are held properly spaced apart by means of lugs bent into appropriate recesses. The plain extension tapes are held in the stops by bent over teeth on the remote edges. The top stops shown in Fig. 17 are of angular form so that the plain extension tapes 64 lie parallel when the slider 65 is at the top stops. The bottom stop shown in Fig. 13 has inward projections 54, 55 to lockingly engage the fastener elements and has lateral extensions 56 to prevent unravelling of the tape ends. The plain extension tapes may be stuck to the stringer tapes by adhesive. Specification 449,093 is referred to.
